"My sources of inspiration are mainly situations, motions, emotions, expressions of joy or suffering. My spouse has sometimes very rude headaches and migraine. In this 'senzaquarelle' I have tried to communicate my feelings when I see her suffering, and at the same time the image she has of herself during such crises."

(Email to Klaus Podoll, September 2, 2002)

"Senzaquarelles" are "a new art form" developed by Bert C. de Loore, which he defined thus: "These are computer compositions, either starting from drawings, scanned into the computer, or free fantasies, composed directly on the screen, then elaborated by using software, such as Painter, Photoshop, Claris, Sketcher... The results are creations, resembling watercolours (aquarelles), but since they are made on the computer, i.e. without (senza) water (aqua), they are denominated by the neologism 'senzaquarelles'."

About the artist

"By profession, Bert de Loore is a professor in ordinary for astrophysics at the Free University of Brussels and has been familiar with computers since 1961. For his scientific work he utilises various programming languages. Moreover the computer is an indispensable instrument for complex calculations in the field of astronomy. The artist himself declares: 'For a few years I have been using my computer knowledge also on an artistic level, in order to paint and draw with the computer just the same as with water-colour, pencil, Indian ink, acrylic, pastel, charcoal. I also use the computer to scan my own works, to break them up into pieces and to make new compositions with these pieces.' The motives featured in his work are on the one hand abstract creations in collages, fantasies and dream images, on the other hand human figures in all sorts of contexts and real settings."
