Sex and age distribution

Sixty participants in Sofia Greene's internet survey fulfilled the diagnostic criteria of definite persistent migraine without infarction, displaying a MAS score ≥ 4 including the item B.10 (subjects #1, #8, #14, #20, #23, #30, #42, #45, #52, #73, #75, #80, #85, #86, #104, #120, #136, #138, #141, #142, #145, #147, #152, #153, #156, #157, #159, #162, #167, #168, #169, #171, #172, #175, #179, #180, #182, #185, #189, #200, #217, #228, #230, #233, #234, #235, #240, #254, #257, #258, #264, #265, #273, #276, #277, #283, #284, #296, #300, #301).

The 60 subjects comprised 28 males and 32 females (sex ratio male : female 1 : 1,14), which does not differ statistically significant from a distribution with equal numbers of females and males (χ2 = 0,27, df =1, n.s.).

The mean age when first participating in the survey was 31,2 yrs with a range from 15 to 54 yrs (n=59, missing value for subject #153).

"51!!!! Wow, you are a visual snow champ. That is an accomplishment. Surviving that long without going insane. I dream of the day when I am like 70, probably still have visual snow, still see blood cells in the sky and on all plain surfaces, still have severe after-images, and probably in addition have real blurry vision that most 70 year olds have, but I at last have the pleasure of talking to the youngsters about what it was like to live so long with it (this started at the age of 17 for me).

They will all be like 'wow that is so fascinating', because the visual snow disease would have been completely prevented 10 years before through genetic engineering, special anti-migraine aura drugs, etc. But by that time, it is too late for us, however. But it would be my dream that through mine and others efforts over a lifetime, some real understanding into this condition will be gained, and that all eye doctors will be familiar with it, able to treat it, and perhaps able to cure it if found in the early stages."

This subgroup of 60 subjects with definite persistent aura without infarction included 5 children (2 boys and 3 girls) with a mean age of 16,4 yrs (range 15-17 yrs). In the youngest subject, a 15-year-old girl (subject #30), the survey data had been provided by her father.
