History of migraine

In the group of 60 subjects who got a diagnosis of definite persistent aura without infarction according to the criteria used in this study, the MAS score was 6,82 ± 1,38 (mean ± SD) with a range from 4-10.

Of the 60 subjects, 51 reported a history of recurring headaches before (41 subjects) and/or after (42 subjects) the onset of persistent aura and 60 had a history of transitory migraine aura symptoms before (48 subjects) and/or after (46 subjects) the onset of the given migraine complication. It is worth noting that 9 subjects (#73, #80, #136, #182, #230, #235, #257, #296, #300) with definite persistent aura had no history of recurring headaches at all. A previous history of persisting aura symptoms (i.e. multiple episodes of persistent aura) was encountered in 36 subjects. All 60 subjects described an onset of at least one episode of persistent aura without infarction with an attack of migraine with aura typical of previous attacks except that one or more aura symptoms persists for > 1 week (i.e. with at least one persistent aura symptom having occurred before as transitory aura symptom). Three subjects observed a transitory worsening of the intensity of persistent aura symptoms with attacks of migraine headache and 9 subjects with attacks of migraine with aura. Unfortunately, CCT and/or MRI scans were available in only 45 subjects to exclude other causes.

Similarly, in Peatfield et al.'s (2009) retrospective case series of 15 subjects with persistent aura without infarction, including patients presenting with blurring and shimmering of vision, with wiggly, twig-like or zigzag lines, persistent afterimages, and weakness of one leg with speech arrest, headache "was never a significant problem".
