All 30 subjects were Caucasians. As regards nationality, the majority came from the US (16 subjects), followed by subgroups of subjects from Germany (4 subjects), the UK (4 subjects), Canada (3 subjects), Finland (1 subject), France (1 subject) and Russia (1 subject), respectively.
Thirty of the studied 500 participants in Sofia Greene's internet survey fulfilled the DSM-IV diagnostic criteria of Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder (subjects #2, #32, #34, #72, #89, #91, #95, #97, #98, #99, #100, #101, #103, #114, #115, #119, #190, #191, #199, #237, #245, #260, #268, #371, #404, #434, #437, #442, #446, #490). These 30 subjects comprised 25 males and 5 females (sex ratio male : female 5,0 : 1), indicating a clear preponderance of the male sex. The mean age when first participating in the survey was 26,3 yrs with a range from 16 to 50 yrs (n=30).
