Sofia Greene's internet survey represents the first study of persisting perception disorder systematically collecting data not only on drug use, but also on the history and family history of migraine, so that the differential diagnosis between HPPD and persistent aura without infarction and possible interactions between HPPD and migraine can be explored. The following webpages describe the clinical characteristics of the entire sample of 30 subjects (#2, #32, #34, #72, #89, #91, #95, #97, #98, #99, #100, #101, #103, #114, #115, #119, #190, #191, #199, #237, #245, #260, #268, #371, #404, #434, #437, #442, #446, #490) participating in Sofia Greene's internet survey who were given a diagnosis of HPPD according to the diagnostic criteria of DSM-IV (American Psychiatric Association, 1994). A comparison between the two subgroups of HPPD without migraine (19 subjects [#32, #91, #95, #97, #100, #103, #114, #115, #119, #190, #191, #199, #245, #268, #371, #434, #437, #446, #490]) and HPPD & migraine (11 subjects [#2, #34, #72, #89, #98, #99, #101, #237, #260, #404, #442]) will be presented in a separate section of this website.
In addition to their responses to Sofia Greene's internet survey, further clinical information was available in 29 subjects (in one case [subject #446] provided by the subject's wife) from subsequent email correspondence with Dr. Podoll (27 subjects [#2, #32, #72, #89, #91, #95, #97, #98, #99, #100, #101, #103, #114, #115, #119, #190, #191, #199, #237, #245, #260, #268, #404, #437, #442, #446, #490]) and/or subjects' posts at internet websites (21 subjects [#2, #32, #72, #89, #97, #99, #100, #103, #115, #119, #190, #191, #199, #245, #260, #268, #371, #404, #434, #442, #446]) such as the Ezboard forum Visual snow or static (16 subjects [#2, #32, #72, #97, #100, #119, #190, #191, #199, #245, #268, #371, #404, #434, #442, #446]), the Ezboard forum HPPD@www.ezboard.com (4 subjects [#72, #89, #103, #115]), the DP/DR forum (1 subject [#442]), the @med1 Forum (1 subject [#260]), the subject's personal deviantART website (1 subject [#99]) or the subject's personal homepage (1 subject [#404]), respectively.
In one of the 30 subjects, it was possible to obtain a copy of medical records from his neurologist who had made a diagnosis of visual snow before the subject's (#268) participation in Sofia Greene's internet survey. As mentioned previously, such medical records are of great importance as external validation of the diagnoses by internet made in the present study.
