What I see...

"Hi K, I think any new website that helps to spread the word about vs and similar problems is wonderful. I read through your page, and looks like a great resource. If you have any questions, I would be more than happy to answer them."

What I see...

By NR

For the things that I find slightly abnormal about my VS, I have posted related accounts.

Green Spots, Red Dots [not illustrated]: Here is a little something new that has been happening to me. Near the center of my field of vision, I seem to have some "VS intensity." When my eyes are closed its more like a constant green light and strange images, when my eyes are open its more like a collection of dots, each much more defined that the normal static. Sometimes, against white surfaces, the dots take on green and red colors. Here is what I see... [not illustrated]

This seems to be a bit rare, but here are some people with similar accounts:

"Does anybody get faint yellowish spots when outside?? They are towards the center of my vision... they change from day to day, it's not a constant set of blotches that always stays the... and when I blink they sort of reverse and become purplish or something and then are more distinct, then if I look around for a while without blinking, they are pretty much invisible.... anyone have anything like this?"

"Yeah I see yellowish red sometimes even greenish, they are very hard to see and only happen on bright objects like white walls the background of computer screens etc... I also see them in the clouds... and when I close my eyes it leaves a bluish tint behind."

"My neurologist mentioned that one of her patients was seeing green spots on white backgrounds but a neuro-ophthalmologist was not able to find anything."

"Hallo, do you also sometimes see Blotches of colour, exspacially when you look at a white wall? Sometimes I see yellow and blue blotches and always VS. Are the blotches of colour "normal"?"

(Gerrit, Ezboard forum Visual snow or static - Archive - Blotches of colour, June 13, 2005)

"Yes I see the blotches, they are what tipped me off about the VS. I also see large blotches of yellow, sometiems red and blue. However I also see very small moving patches of red and greeniish (I am talking very very fine dancing random patterns)."

"Hey all, glad to have found this forum.

I was wondering if anyone had this visual?

It's always there, closed eyed, open eyed, although I can focus on it and make it stronger.

The interesting thing is that I remember being able to 'summon' it when I was a child, it helped me sleep.

It looks like a sort of blue point of light, and as I focus it becomes larger, and begins to vibrate, and more intricate forms and colours are seen inside of it.

Also, withing the past year I've started to see 'static', it actually looks like thousands of tiny sparks which, interestingly, seem to interact with each other. I don't mean in a conscious way, but they seem to bounce off each other and chase each other and so on.

I also see flashes, ripples and colours hanging in the air, and trails and after images.

It doesn't interfere with my vision though. I can read easily and everything so I'm not sure if it's the same thing a lot of you guys seem to have. I certainly wouldn't seek medication to get rid of it, it's actually kind of cool.

I thought there was going to be a point to this post, but it seems not. Anyway, hi, it's good to be here."

Visual Snow/Static: Here is a representation of what it looks like to be indoors. The static is an overlay of about 15% intensity, and the specs are white only. For this reason MY visual snow is much more noticable on dark surfaces. You will see that the static is much more distracting on the T.V. than the white bed, or the texturally diverse window.

Many people talk about how the sky is so distracting so I thought I might make one more outdoor scene.

Sometimes I think that the static is not stationary, but rather moving together in unison. Almost like a wave of people at a football game. In these pictures I simply have two scenes of rendered noise alternating between each frame. This is not, at all, a perfect example of how my snow looks. But it does get close.

Wormlike Floaters (cells?): Another problem I have, which predates my VS by 4-5 years, is the constant presence of multiple "wormlike" floaters. From what I have heard these might be some kind of protein strands or blood cells? I really don't know, my doctor had nothing much to say besides the fact that my eyes were floater free, and healthy.

Seeing Stars/Gnats (cells?): I also notice, when I am looking at brighter surfaces (such a the sky) I can also notice small lights shooting around. I would correlate this with "seeing stars," but they look more like small gnats to me, buzzing all around my vision, leaving small trails where they go. Out of all my symptoms, I think I notice these the least. Bu they are there...

"Anyone ever sneezed and 'seen stars'? they are like sparkling things moving around the edge of ur vision.... When looking at the sky many ppl noticing sparklies could this be related??"

Visual Afterimages/Negative Images: A little bit about the afterimages I see. Now I consider after-images totally normal, but I can't help but think that they have become much more overpowering than ever before. Even so, keep in mind that I hardly ever notice this, or maybe I should say that it has rarely caused me any inconvenience or worry. In the past I would get after images after looking at any bright surface with a contrasting background. If I closed my eyes this overall area of contrast might show up in my mind, but with not much details. Now, however, I notice anything in my vision with any slight contrast can create an overlaying after image, not only to my closed eyes, but to my open eyes as well. I also noticed that sometimes I might be watching TV, and a commercial with some plain white text shows up. I close my eyes to take a break from the TV and there is the ad, and the text. I can still read it, for as long as 10-15 sec.

I might be looking at these hills:

I will then glance upwards just a bit, and see:

This one was kind of hard to represent graphically, but I tired. I think many people will be able to relate to that.

Night Vision [not illustrated]: One of the times I hate the most is the night. Everything is dark, so VS seems at a high, but on top of that it's almost like the darkness sheds light on yet more annoying problems. When it is pitch black it seems as if the sides of my vision are lighter and pulsating, or maybe just have an area of intense visual snow. Sometimes I notice that this outer edge of brightness seems to pulsate with my heartbeat, this lightness is subtle and does not bother me much. I also get bursts of light, and they look like circles, mostly on the sides of my vision. These usually don't seem to last as long, or maybe that is because I turn the TV on to shine some light on my walls and escape... I also get small flashes of light, larger than the VS static, but much smaller than the bursts I just mentioned. Here is a graphical representation:

(Keep in mind I tried to show all of my symptoms at once here, and my vision is rarely this crazy. Only when in complete darkness do the bright flashes seem to present themselves.)

Related accounts

"Can anyone comment on 'pulsing' of their vision? What I mean by this is when your vision actually jumps in time with each heart beat. I can tune it out at times, other times I cannot. It is pretty much in the peripheral vision, and is easier to see if I unfocus my eyes a bit. I can vaguely remember some of you out there having this symptom... I think what I really need to hear right now is that I'm not the only one with the heartbeat/vision jump thing going on - it's been worse for me lately and it's starting to freak me out again."

Yellow Lightning: I really only noticed this once, but I thought I might as well post it. I think it might have just been because I was playing with my eyes too much, but I did see some similar accounts so here it is. On light surfaces, it looks as if there were yellow lightning steaks going down my vision. They didn't really move, just acted as an yellow overlay.

Related account

"I also noticed if I go outside after being in a dark room and blink several times while looking at the clouds I see red 'lightning' which I describe as lines with main branches that come off them and divide the image into several oddly shaped areas. However this was very difficult to notice"

Related Symptoms?: Some things that I think are connected, and that I suffer from
1. Axiety/Depression/Panic Attacks
2. Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
