Psychological stress

Doplegager [subject #486], A Chance in Hell (a fantasy/horror webcomic), 2007. "I've been trying to use the intensity of the static as a kind of representation of the protagonist's stress, so it varies from page to page, but the covers have the widest range in intensity." © 2007 Doplegager (larger image see here) [more]

Definite persistent aura without infarction

"Triggers: I would say stress was often the trigger but other times I could not find a specific issue that would generate the symptoms. After a stressful event subsided, some of these symptoms would emerge and last for days."

(viper123456 [subject #42], Email to Klaus Podoll, February 24, 2006)

"There are no triggers for my vision problems, however lack of sleep and exercise make them worse, along with anxiety (really stressful situations i.e. public speaking as I'm a masters student and must give presentations in class which is almost impossible now I get tunnel vision."

(schimdog [subject #52], Email to Sofia Greene, April 7, 2006)

"I noticed that during the times my vs is worse (stress or being tired) I also suffer from a lot of nausea... Do you have this as well?"

(Gyps Kindra [subject #120], Ezboard forum Visual snow and static - Archive 2 – Nausea, October 13, 2003)

"All I can say to everyone with this problem is this: the only thing that makes it worse (worse means for me the days I'm bothered by it and can't look next to it) is: stress and not enough sleep!!! -notice: stress and less sleep is what makes it worse, not what is causing it.

That was actually all I wanted to say, but since I now expect a lot of replies from ppl saying that they are not stressed or have anxiety, etc... look at it this way: you all are in this forum often, surfing the net in hope to find a cure, you all fear that you health will get worse, most probably feel miserable and helpless. Some might be obsessed with this 'condition'.

That my friends, is a form of stress and it's the 'stress' that is unhealthy for you.

Don't take my word for it, but if you can, see a psychologist. They can't take away what is causing the disturbances, but since they aren't life threatening, they can help/guide/teach you to look further and see life 'through' the snow, even make it so that you won't notice it most of the time.

(post not meant to flame, just an honest person's experience with this.)

wish you all the best
Saskia"

vs, migraine and stress

"We know that stress increases the chance on a migraine attack...

we know that stress increases vs symptoms.

and we know that most of the vs 'victims' have migraines.

and have stress...

so, can we conclude, once and for all, that the 3 of these are related?"

(Gyps Kindra [subject #120], Ezboard forum Visual snow and static – Archive 2 - vs, migraine and stress, December 14, 2005)

"the more I think about it the worse it gets - maybe linked to stress, as I seem to get it coinciding with my worst bouts of depression?"

(SparklingAries [subject #175], Ezboard forum Visual snow and static – Discussion - I'm new, September 4, 2006)

Vicious circle of stress, persistent aura, anxiety and depression (larger image see here). If the positive feedback loop in which the system responds to perturbation in the same direction as the perturbation runs out of control, it can result in the collapse of the system. This is called vicious circle, or in Latin circulus vitiosus. © 2008 Klaus Podoll [more]

Referring to the above illustration of the vicious circle of stress, persistent aura, anxiety and depression, jruddy (subject #515) remarked:

"I get the same with my left-side weakness and twitching/jerking/soreness. - It's a bit more complex though.

It starts with the weakness - it makes me stressed and makes me rest.

When at rest and stressed I start to twitch and jerk in my arms and legs

The worry of Parkinson's causes more anxiety and stress, which makes me twitch and jerk more.

Movement relieves the twitching and jerking, so I walk around, this also relieves stress and anxiety sometimes, but my left side gets very tired and sore.

So I sit down and rest, and start twitching..."

(jruddy [subject #515], Yuku forum Visual snow or static - General discussion - Vicious circle of stress, persistent aura, anxiety and depression, February 6, 2008)
