Alcohol

Definite persistent aura without infarction

"Alcohol is a trigger for the vestibular neuronitis symptoms, and whenever I feel very dizzy the vision problems are also exaggerated."

(Jane10 [subject #23], Email to Sofia Greene, June 5, 2005)

"[Alcohol] makes it better while you have a buzz but a bit worse afterwards."

(viper123456 [subject #42], Ezboard forum Visual snow or static – Discussion – Alcohol as factor worsening the intensity of VS?; June 28, 2006)

"Well, unfortunately, due to getting extremely drunk on Wednesday night, my vision has been terrible and it is not fun to deal with on a hangover. It's Friday morning now and my vision is still a bit of a mess; afterimages, trails, and sort of cloudy and sometimes sparkly vision. I can't really deal with shadows and reflections, but this is not new. Arghh! I was supposed to be getting a lot done today, but it's just so upsetting when this is going on. It hadn't gone away completely, but it was barely there before. I'm sure it will lessen in the next few days, if not, then I guess I'll have to give up big nights out."

(Sofia Greene [subject #1], Email to Larry, July 2005)

"It only takes one glass of wine for me to feel adverse effects on vision. Because of that, it has to be a very good glass of wine to tempt me."

(SopuliSusie [subject #405], Yuku forum Visual snow or static - General discussion - Alcohol or PC??, December 10, 2007)

"Alcohol makes my vision worse the day after. During the drinking I don't notice a difference cause I'm happily drunk."

Probable persistent aura without infarction

"Alcohol makes my vision and tinnitus worse, but also masks the effects of my DP/DR, because its essentially the same thing, only alcohol actually feels good."

(ohCRICKETS [subject #433], Yuku forum Visual snow or static - General discussion - Alcohol or PC??, December 10, 2007)

"As for alcohol, it doesn't have any effect on my visual symptoms but it does make my tinnitus roar... then again, it makes me care less about either. It's nice to take a vacation now and then... wouldn't want to live there."

Possible persistent aura without infarction

"my afterimages get worse when im drunk but i dont seem to care!!!! the next day they are bad too, same as if i'm ill with cold my visuals seem worse.

i stopped drinking for a couple of years but recently thought **** it i'm gonna have a life again !"

(donjenkins [subject #21], Ezboard forum Visual snow or static –Archive 2 – VS and alcohol, December 22, 2005)

"Personally although I never used to drink much anyway, these days I daren't drink at all, when VS first started I made the mistake of drinking (out of feeling depressed) and my VS was that bad it felt like I could barely see, that lasted for a good 12 hours so never again."

Further observations from the Yuku (formerly Ezboard) forum Visual snow or static

"Does anyone find that alcohol effects vs? I find that I hardly notice it if I have a few bevvies - perhaps it's the distraction. Also I find that if I am hungover then my vs intensifies for 24 hours or so, depending how hungover I am. Does anyone else find this?"

(Rose3223, Ezboard forum Visual snow or static – Archive – Alcohol, December 12, 2003)

"Yep, not a hangover part, but I defiantly noticed that few drinks do make my snow less intense, or even go away for a while."

(tali, Ezboard forum Visual snow or static – Archive – Alcohol - Yepp, December 12, 2003)

"I have to say it gets noticably worse, however that may be a spurious correlation since it is usually evening when I partake of a beverage or two and my snow is always worse in low light."

(louise, Ezboard forum Visual snow or static –Archive 2 – VS and alcohol, December 23, 2005)

"Does anyone find that drinking alcohol makes your visual snow worse? Even like just a glass of wine or something? It makes my sight craaazy."
