How can I find a doctor knowledgeable and experienced in taking care of people with persistent aura?

Look for a neurologist with an interest in migraines. A teaching hospital would be good place to go - since their doctors are likely to be interested in unusual cases.

You may carry a copy of the webpages on diagnostic criteria and therapy of persistent aura without infarction to your doctor to provide him or her with an up-to-date information on this complication of migraine with aura.

To receive a list of doctors recommended by users of the Yuku (formerly Ezboard) forum Visual snow or static please send an email to Klaus Podoll. Referral information is not checked or warranted by Migraine Aura Foundation.

If you are a professional who treats patients with persistent migraine aura, please conctact Klaus Podoll for inclusion in our treatment referral listing.

Peter A. Quiros, MD, neuro-ophthalmologist, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA, Phone: (714) 628-2966. website: here

"He's an neuro-ophthalmologist who finally said what my problem was. He did discuss persistent aura. His discussion about treating this disorder was direct and clear. His view is this disorder is caused by faulty sensory gating of the thalamus. Bottom line: very good doctor and very easy to talk to." Neil H. Raskin, MD, neurologist and headache specialist, University of California, San Francisco, CA, Phone: (415) 353-2273, website: here

"I saw Dr. Raskin again the other day at UCSF. Like most, he's not that worried from a medical standpoint. He's sympathetic to my/our dilemma. Regardless, he's seen about 30 people who fit our symptom profile over the years -- and nothing has ever really helped. The two drugs that are indicted for this condition are depakote and lamictal. Numerous other posters on this board have tried these drugs without benefit."
