My apologies for this unsolicited email. I came across your wonderful website whilst doing some research on migraine.

My name is Anthony Peake. I am a writer working on his second book. This book will focus in on evidence human psychological duality. In my first book (Is There Life After Death? The Extraordinary Science of What Happens When You Die) I propose something I term the Daemon-Eidolon Dyad. I argue that there is stong evidence from neurology, psychiatry and psychology that we have two active centres of consciousness in the brain (for the background to this I have attached a paper [Peake, 2004] I had published in the USA a few years ago).

In my new book I will investigate the viability of another theory - what I term the Scale of Transcendence. I suggest that the everyday personality (the 'I' or 'me' - the consciousness I term the Eidolon) is usually totally unaware of the higher consciousness (which I term the Daemon). However their is a group of neurological conditions that allow ever greater subliminal access to the Daemon and its perceptions. I argue that these states 'tune' the Eidolon into the sensory awareness of the Daemon. I consider that the facilitator of this awareness is a cocktail of neurotransmitters but particularly glutamate.

The Scale of Transcendence begins with migraine, which offers a narrow access, then temporal lobe epilepsy which allows a manageable amount of sensory information through to eidolonic consciousness. The highest level is diagnosed as schizophrenia whereby the eidolon is overcome with sensory data that it simply cannot cope with. I argue that this scale is a continium.

Having 'suffered' from fairly severe migraines for most of my life I can, from personal experience, vouch for the first level. However I need more empirical data - specifically migrainers who experience precognitive deja vu, hear voices, suffer from autoscopy or perceive reality in a slightly different way. I am particularly interested in creative people who consider their migraine linked to their creativity.
