#446 Wendi Triplet Mom's husband

Time Table

b. 1962 - No positive family history for migraine in 1st degree relatives
1979 - Onset of cannnabis use; hallucinogen use (LSD, mushrooms)
2005 - Onset of HPPD (redish-brown webbing)

"I keep meaning to ask, does anyone here see a redish-brown (like the color of dried blood) webbing across their field of vision that does NOT move? In other words, it is not a floater since it never moves and it has lasted at least 2 years. My husband [subject #446] sees this all the time in both eyes, worse in one than the other. He's been to all sorts of doctors, too, with no results, so he is choosing to ignore it, but every once in a while he gets very frustrated with it. Just wondering if I can tell him there is someone else with this. BTW he has no VS or any of the other symptoms I have."

"No, he [subject #446] does not [suffer from migraine] and as far as I know nobody in his family has migraines."

"He [subject #446] says he played softball and had a couple of beers, then the next morning he woke up with it. Did not get hit in the head or anything. It got a little worse slowly at first, but then stopped changing. The docs see nothing wrong with his eyes or optic nerve. The last specialist told him to wear sunglasses more often, but it makes no difference if he does or not. He says it is mostly in the left eye and a little in the right."

"Well, after looking at the simulator he [subject #446] says it does move a little, and when it does move it is like the floaters but it just never leaves the visual field I'm guessing it must be one heck of a HUGE floater!!! But how come the eye doctors can't see it if it is that big?"

"BTW there was snow on the TV last night and I asked my 3 kids if they can see the little black and white dots blinking on the TV. They said yes.

I asked them to look around the room and tell me if they see it anywhere else. They all said no. I asked if they could TRY to see it anywhere else. They all said they could only see it on the TV. I asked my husband [subject #446] to do the same and he could not see it, even when he was trying very hard to see it."

On behalf of her husband [subject #446], Wendi Triplet Mom [subject #147] recorded his responses to the Sofia Greene survey on persistent perception disturbances as follows:

"1. Name or screen name (optional): M

2. Email (optional):

3. Location (optional): Long Island, New York, USA

4. Age: 1962

5. Sex: Male

6. Nationality and Race (optional): American, Caucasian, ancestry German, Italian, Irish

7. Do you have classic migraine (migraine with aura) or common migraine (migraine without aura)? When did it begin?

No.

8. What do you take for your classic or common migraine and does it help?

N/A.

9. Have you been diagnosed with persistent aura (prolonged migraine aura status)?

No.

10. What is your visual problem and how long does it last?

Redish Brown webbing in both eyes, worse in left eye. Started about 2 years ago suddenly, got worse the first few months then stayed the same. It is there all the time. Says it floats a little like floaters but is always in the visual field.

11. Any other problems that you think might be related?

Had a car accident at 18 yrs old where the nerves controlling movement of the left eye were damaged, the left cheek was crushed (metal inserted into the cheek). When he is tired his left eyelid droops and the eye drifts a bit inward toward the nose. His vision was not changed after the accident though the doctors expected it to be.

12. What do you take or do for your vision problem and does it help?

Nothing.

13. Have you found a trigger for your vision problem?

No.

14. What tests have you had and the results?

He cannot go for an MRI due to the metal in his cheek. He has been to an optometrist, ophthalmologist and retina/vitreous specialist. They have done vision tests but have not seen anything that could be causing this. The vitreous is starting to break down but he should not be able to see it. Optic nerve and retina are fine. They saw a couple of floaters but they were very small and should not be causing this.

15. Drug history (pre VS):

In high school (17 yrs old) he tried acid and mushrooms. He has been smoking pot since high school.

16. Drug history (post VS - effect on VS - negative, positive, not at all):

He smokes pot a little and it does not do anything for it. Drinks beer with no difference in visuals.

17. Do you have a positive family history for migraine? If yes, who is affected?

Nobody in his family has migraines.

18. Other information you want to provide?

No."
