Time Table

b. 1969 - No positive family history for migraine; no history of hallucinogen use
Very early childhood - 1st episode of persistent aura without infarction (visual snow, spots, kaleidoscopic hallucination, increased afterimages); onset of recurring attacks of migraine aura without headache (palinopsia, corona phenomenon)
ca. 1980 - Onset of sleep paralysis
ca. 1988 - Single out-of-body experience

"I guess I'm a lifer... just discovered site and I am so thankful... My only regret is I would like to be in a room that is totally dark for once in my life. For we all know that anyone who truly has this condition is never ever totally in the dark for the snow is always there (even brighter in the dark) how do you guys feel about this?"

(tokooltone [subject #556], Yuku forum Visual snow or static - General discussions - I just woke up and had it - Help me!, March 27, 2008)

"Can anyone control any aspects of snow/static? On occasion, at night when in bed and bored... I will stare at one spot (eyes closed) and through the snow a spinning star will appear, very tiny. Actually I believe it is several small circles rotating around one another (makes it look like a star) this is the only thing I can do at will in regards to VS. Does anyone have similiar experiences to this?"

(tokooltone [subject #556], Yuku forum Visual snow or static - General discussions - Can anyone controls any aspects of snow/static?, March 27, 2008)

"Is a paranormal connection possible? Maybe.

I've had VS all of my life. I am as used to it as I am to breathing. I actually only became frustrated when I realized I was not 'supposed' to see this way.

Besides VS I also frequently (sometimes infrequently ) suffer from sleep paralysis, which many beleive is a gateway to an out-of-body experience (OBE). I realize I may be reaching by trying to connect the two. I am leaving my options open because our condition has never truly been diagnosed. It's almost like a religion, the person we are trying to explain it to has to have 'faith' that it is there because they cannot see it with there own eyes. Most don't have faith. There is no known pill (to my knowledge) that can effectively treat us. So for me to suggest that VS may be an extra sensory tool may not be that far off base. I do realize that some aspects can be explained scientifically. Besides snow I also see the aura of any and all objects if I think about it (you know, you look at something then look away and you can see the outline or ghost of that object while no longer looking at the object). I could have a conversation with myself on the subject but something tells me that would'nt result in new information. So i'd like to ask if anyone out there believes or has ever believed, even remotely if there could be a paranormal connection. Also any experiences that may back up this thinking would be interesting."

"The web site you provided was helpful. I also see that mentioning a paranormal connection is somewhat frowned upon. Well it was just a thought. Thanks again."

"I've had one OBE in my life when I was around 19. I justed posted inquiring if anyone thinks there is a possible connection to VS. What do you think?"

(tokooltone [subject #556], Yuku forum Visual snow or static - General discussions - out of body experience, April 5, 2008)

"Does opininion of bad or good VS depend on duration of condition.

I have had VS all my life and it is a nuisance but it is not as traumatic as in some others. I am beginning to believe this is because I am a lifer, someone who has had the condition as long as they have had a memory. Do sudden onset VS sufferers find it more agonizing then lifers? I would imagine so. I think the nuisance factor of the condition for some may be relative to how long one has had the condition. I believe a lifer can have the same degree on a person with sudden onset of VS and the person with newly acquired VS will see it as more of a hinderance than the lifer. Almost like some one being born blind versus some one who became blind later in life (though this example is extrem). How do you life time sufferers feel? Is VS intolerable? Non life timers, what do you think. Personally if I woke up one day and did not have the condition I could see myself going through anxiety because it is all I have ever known, but I am not saying that I want it, just that it is all I have ever known when it comes to my sight."

"Normally last a few seconds (20 or 30) however on rare occassions, very rare I can see an outline then disregard it (because I am used to seeing them) and up to 20 or so minutes later again see the same outline. This, long after outline has only occured a few times. Also I can see such an array of outlines it can seem that there is no formula (never put to much thought into types and when until I discovered web site and had proof I was not alone) I can see an outline of a picture on a wall or see the outline of the wall, as long as all the edges were visible at the time. I also can of course see the outline of people and just about any object at all. This normally occurs without my assistance, though I can initiate its occurence as well (most times). This is another phenomenon I belive the general public suffers from as well. Am I correct in this? or have I found yet another sight issue that is abnormal. The 'afterimage' as I think it is called can come in multiple colors though their seems to be only one color per outline. I will observe this aspect further and more intently, as in the past I just shrugged off observations because the issue was simply a part of my every day life. Would of been like taking notes on walking for no reason. In short if I am going about my daily routine I really won't see them or 'create them' but in a weird sort of way I know they are alway there but in no way as obvious or as much a part of me as the ever present VS."

"I do believe something other than scientific is occuring. The fact that I can stare at one spot (with eyes opened or closed) wide awake and extremely sober and 'make' these little spinning circles appear is uncanny, even to me and I have been doing this at will as long as I can remember. They look the exact same way every single time without fail (I actually took a 7 second pause and did it as I typed this). This is the only image I can clearly see through the snow though these spinning circles that look like a star comes from the snow."

"When I said paranormal connection, I may have been at a loss for words. Replace paranormal with Extra sensory. I beleive it is more fitting."

"Because there are so many aspects to this condition, I neglected to mention that I do indeed see a sort of aura or extra-contour around an object whilst looking at the object. This is not prevalent at all times however it does occur with some degree of frequency. Sometimes the aura (one aura) floats away from the original object as I am looking at the object and this provides me with an 'afterimage' identical to the 'look away image'. I must say I havent noticed this occurence lately, but then I am so used to it I pay little notice. I will again, however pay more attention to all aspects of my vision in the hopes of giving more detailed desrcriptions in the future."

"If I can recall correctly, my sleep paralysis began when I was a preteen. Maybe around 11 years of age. This is approximate but I believe fairly accurate. I have coincidently been doing research on this subject as well. I do believe, from internet research I have been doing that there may be a paranormal connection to SP (sleep paralysis). However with VS I believe there may be more of an ESP connection. I spend some of my time on the net going from one to another because for both conditions, I just discovered that there are others like me. First I began with SP then said what the heck and began searching in regards to VS. And actually found others!! So in short I must say this last month or two of my life has been 'different' knowing that 2 conditions I have had for so long alone, are shared by so many. Nuff said."

"One side effect. I was recently reading the positives and negatives of the VS forum (here). In this regard I must say, I personally see only positives, well mostly. I must admit, now that I am aquainted with this site I have been more aware of my VS. It is not a distraction in a major way as it never has been but I am taking note of it on almost an hourly basis now. I assume this will taper off with time and I will go back to my usual, short attention span I have with my VS. The best example I can give is 'You really dont pay attention to your nose until you have a cold even though your nose is always there'. It seems I have caught a cold. Is this a normal side effect for new users of the site?"

"I found this picture of an atom online and it very closely depicts what I see (just many times smaller, and with a few more circles added). Of course the circles are in motion just like in picture creating the 'star' like effect. There is no nucleus. Very, very good depiction.

(tokooltone [subject #556], Yuku forum Visual snow or static - General discussions - Can anyone controls any aspects of snow/static?, April 8, 2008)

"Also the circles are moving at an incredible speed. There are no actual line like in the picture, the speed of the circles themselves create the star like effect."
